About Katy Long

I knew when I married a military man what I was in for, but let me tell you, if you don’t already know-it’s a stressful life. We’ve moved around a lot, the deployments are hard on the whole family, and there’s a lot of uncertainty in the life. The benefits of being a military family do help take some of the edge off, but we really need our vacations to unwind and reconnect-more than I think the average family does. I always try to plan something that we can all enjoy together, but that can be hard to do.

The first time I thought about using our vacation time to take a cruise was about 5 years ago. I thought that it was probably going to be too expensive, but then I looked into it and realized that most cruise lines offer military discounts! That made the idea much more affordable. Because of the wide range of activities available, we were able to take a vacation that allowed everyone to do things they enjoyed, but we could still all spend time together. It was the most relaxing vacation we’d had in years. Now, we’re veteran cruise goers-that’s our choice almost every time a vacation comes up. We’ve been able to see so much of the world in such a fun way, and we always come back home feeling happier and more bonded. I really recommend cruises for family vacations, especially for military families.
